Blue Cheese Buttermilk Dressing

Blue Cheese Dressing can be used as a dip as well. The buttermilk can be reduced in quantity to make it thicker. Great on a crudite tray with crumbled blue cheese on top.

On the West Coast there are many cheese producers, many have at least one variety of a blue cheese. If you are a blue cheese connoisseur go on a cheese hunt and search out those dairies who are known for their blue cheeses. There are so many varieties of blue cheeses and dairies may put their own twist on them.

This blue cheese dressing is easy to throw together.
It calls for half of the blue cheese to be melted in a microwave.
It is not essential but allows for the dressing to get infused with blue cheese flavor.

Recipe Multiplier

  • 5 oz Blue Cheese (1/2 for melting & 1/2 for crumbles)
  • cup Buttermilk
  • 1 cup Sour Cream
  • 1 cup Mayonnaise
  • 1 ea Large Garlic Clove – microplaned
  • 1 tsp Red Wine Vinegar
  • ½ tsp Worcestershire
  • ½ tsp Cholula Hot Sauce
  • ½ tsp Granulated Garlic
  • ½ tsp Granulated Onion
  • 1 tsp Cracked Black Pepper
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  • Divide the blue cheese and place half in a bowl to be melted in the microwave. Reserve the other half to be added at the end.
  • In a bowl combine the buttermilk, sour cream and mayonnaise.
  • Melt the blue cheese in the microwave. Microwave for 30 seconds and stir. Microwave for 30 second increments until it is melted. Add to the bowl with the buttermilk, sour cream and mayonnaise. Incorporate immediately so the cheese doesn’t solidify.
  • Grate the garlic into the bowl.
  • Add the remaining ingredients.
  • Adjust seasoning as needed.
  • Refrigerate for a minimum of 2 hours to overnight to allow flavors to combine.

Notes

You can use your favorite hot sauce or remove, it isn’t prominent in the dressing but more of a depth of flavor
